Geoffrey Filkin has held senior leadership roles across the public, private and charitable sectors, including as a CEO, Chair and government minister. He is an expert in governance and public policy, with a track record of driving innovation in local government and influencing national policy, including contributions to the 1997 Labour Manifesto.
Appointed CBE in 1997 and made a member of the House of Lords in 1999, he served as a government minister (2001 to 2005) and chaired several influential Lords committees, including the Select Committee on Demographic Change.
Lord Filkin founded the Centre for Ageing Better, securing a £50 million endowment. He has more recently led work on population health, with his Covenant for Health (2023) shaping policy debate on a whole-system approach to improving health outcomes.
