Rural design guide – active travel on rural roads and lanes

A person walks using mobility aids on a path in a rural setting. Access to the path is restricted by two bollards and a sign attached to a planter. The sign indicates that motorcycles and motor vehicles are restricted.

About this webinar

This webinar is the first in a two-part series introducing Active Travel England’s Rural design guide. It provides background and contextual information about the guide, including why it was developed, the rural settings and users it covers, and how it builds on Local Transport Note (LTN) 1/20. The session then focuses on applying the guidance to rural roads, streets and quiet lanes.

For guidance on traffic-free paths, greenways, rural wayfinding, landscape features, construction and maintenance, please also see the Traffic-free routes and rural landscape design webinar recording.
