About this webinar

This webinar is the second in a two-part series introducing Active Travel England’s rural design guide. It focuses on traffic-free routes and shared-use paths, including accessibility, lighting, surfacing, wayfinding, landscape features, construction and maintenance. It also considers how routes can accommodate a wide range of users and connect with public rights of way, canal towpaths, former railway lines and other rural networks.

For more contextual information about the guide, including why it was developed, its relationship with Local Transport Note (LTN 1/20), the rural environments it covers and its overall design principles, viewers may wish to watch the Active travel on rural roads and lanes webinar recording first. That webinar also provides more detailed information about applying the guidance to rural streets, roads and quiet lanes.
